8 Types of Travellers You’ll Meet

Get set and go! You’re all ready for your travel trip – whether it’s a weekend getaway or an extended trip that involves spending three months in the tropics (lucky you!).

You’ll meet many folks on the road – some of whom will fall under the following categories:

SELFIE LOVERS

They are never without their selfie sticks, and may even have one or two spare ones in their bag (you know, just in case they lose a selfie stick, or want to take two selfies simultaneously). If you ever lose them in a crowd you’ll just have to keep an eye out for the odd camera-ready traveller who’s perpetually holding out a selfie stick.

YOLO

The YOLO traveller’s the one you can always count on to make the trip a huge bundle of fun. Nothing is too intimidating, dangerous or disgusting for him or her to try – and they’ll egg you on to try out these experiences too.

HIPSTER

The Hipster will bring you to the coolest places in da hood – whether it’s that unnamed restaurant, blink-and-you-miss-it watering hole or underground music scene only the cool kids know about.

CHEAPO

With the Cheapo around you’ll never have to worry about busting your budget. He’s drawn up a tight budget, and will gladly remind you of yours.

FOODIE

The adage, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”, certainly holds true for the foodie. Food is the most important thing in his life – maybe it’s the only thing that’s important in his life. If it’s up to him the focal point of the itinerary will be the food, and sightseeing will become convenient fillers to occupy the time that’s not spent on feasting.

LIGHT PACKERS

“Is that all you’re bringing for this trip?” is a question that everyone asks the light packer. He will nod in reply, and tell you he’s got all that he needs in that one backpack.

TRAVELLERS WHO PACK IT ALL

On the other end of the spectrum are the travellers who can’t resist packing their entire home into their luggage. They are also sometimes known as the Asian backpackers – the ones you can count on to supply you with that obscure Nokia phone charger when you need a spare one.

THE PLAN-IN-ALL

Every minute is carefully counted and filled up on the itinerary. Whether it’s 8:35am or 5:48pm in the evening they’ll know the exact location you need to be in order to be on track with your travel plans.

PARTY ANIMAL

Life’s a party for these energetic creatures of the night. They know where and when the coolest parties are, and already have the V.I.P. invites to these hangouts.
